President: 75 percent of the nation

President Abdulla Yameen says that when the two phases of the Hulhumale’ development is completed, 75 percent of the nation’s will be settled in Hulhumale.

Speaking to the media after visiting the site of operation of the second phase of the project, the president said that invitation to relocate to Hulhumale is opened for all the islands and some islands are submitting petitions for relocation.

President Yameen said the government would try to increase the land for the youth and families of small to medium islanders.

“Today, the country’s population is 350, 000. We’re saying it’d be a 230, 000 by the time the two phases of the project is completed. If the youth are coming from the islands, a space for 75 percent is being created in Hulhumale. The President said.

In the president’s visit with some cabinet ministers and MPs of the PPM, the president saw the plans for the development and visited some of the areas.

The president said that the housing units that would be built in Hulhumale would be affordable to any class of youth.

“I want to give hope to the youth that we will try to make the Social Housing scheme, if employed, would be affordable to every youth.” President said.

The president noted that the second phase of the project is going according to the timeline saying that while 95 percent is completed, the land form will be completed in the next 10 days or so. And the revetment of the land will be completed in the next year.

The president said that road and building construction would be on going while the revetment is being completed.
