Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has met with the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Joachim Ruecker, on the sidelines of the ongoing High Level Segment of the 28th session of the UNHRC in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meeting, Dunya briefed the Human Rights Council President on the current political situation in the Maldives and assured him of the government’s commitment to engaging constructively with the Human Rights Council, to continue its advocacy in promoting and protecting human rights both nationally and internationally.
Discussions in the meeting also focused on the role played by the Maldives at the Council and Ambassador Ruecker expressed hope that the Maldives would continue its active role at the Council in addressing human rights issues around the globe, Foreign Ministry said.
