The President’s Office has said that Vice President Mohamed Waheeddeen (Deen) does not wish to live in a state residence; he will continue to live at his resort island Bandos at the residence designated to him and his family.
Government Spokesperson Abbas Adil Riza said that following this decision by the VP, MNDF has commenced security at Bandos.
“To reduce state expenses, the VP does not want to live in a state residence. He will live at his home in Bandos,” Riza said.
He also said that Deen will travel to Male’ daily on his private launch, and use the state car for transportation to his office.
Deen has lived at Dibaage in Bandos, dedicated for his family, for many years. Dibaage has been renovated on several occasions to suit VP Deen’s liking.
Deen, who has a keenness for horses, has designed Dibaage using resemblances of horses. He also had two horses as pets at Dibaage.
Deen usually travels to Male’ on one of Bandos launch section’s ‘Orchid’ speedboats. Before becoming Vice President, he would take a taxi when he arrived in Male’.
Following the resignation of the former President Mohamed Nasheed, the official residence of the President, Muleeaage, is being used for the operation of Inquiry Commission.
Current President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik continues to live at Hilaaleege, where he has lived at since he assumed the post of Vice President. President’s Office has stated that the President does not intend to move from Hilaaleege.
