Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that there is no harm to former President Mohamed Nasheed, though he is under police custody at Dhoonidhoo and it will be stopped even if he tries to deliberately harm his body by himself.
Speaking in “Khabaru Therein” program broadcasted from the local channel DhiTV, Minister Umar on Thursday night said that if a verdict is issued, Home Ministry will have to implement it and president Nasheed will be treated with respect and honor, but he cannot escape from the crime he had committed.
“President Nasheed is not kept in Dhoonidhoo like other criminals. He is being treated with respect and talked politely. Without handcuffs. He gets anything he wishes to eat. This is because he has been the president of Maldives. But he cannot escape from the verdict” said Umar.
Home Minister said this with regard to what has happened when president Nasheed was taken to court on last Monday for the trial held against him following the arrest of Criminal Court Judge Abdulla. When police who lead him into the court building did not allow the reporters at the scene to interview president Nasheed, he refused to enter court and fell deliberately.
With reference to doctors, police have said that president Nasheed was not injured when he was taken to the court that day.
However, his right arm was tied with a T-shirt and his tie (as in those whose arm has got fractured) during the trial held on Monday.
