Along with former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim, his wife Afaaf Abdul Majeed has also been charged with possession of firearms, after police found a firearm following a raid of their apartment.
Afaaf has been summoned to Criminal Court for a hearing at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Earlier, authorities also withheld Nazim’s and Afaaf’s passports, to prevent them from leaving the country.
Article 13 (b) of the Import Prohibition Act states that the penalty for the illegal possession, use, provision, or sale of the items mentioned in Article 2 (a) (1), (2), and (3) of the same Act, is imprisonment, banishment, or house arrest for a period of five to ten years.
Police claim to have found a pistol following a raid of Nazim’s apartment at around 3:30 a.m. on 18 January 2015.
