Damaged Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) have been replaced in four parts of the country. The devices were introduced in an effort to enrich the fishing industry in the country.
Fisheries Ministry has started efforts to replace ten fish aggregating devices which were established under the “Successful Fish Aggregating Device” program.
Deputy Minister for Fisheries, Shazail Shiyam talked to Sun today, and said that a “voyage” is underway to replace the damaged fish aggregating devices.
He said that so far, the devices at four atolls have been replaced, which are the ones located at Meemu Maduvvari, Laamu Maabaidhoo, Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo and Gaafu Dhaalu Gahdhoo; and the device near Seenu Maradhoo will be replaced tomorrow.
“We will replace a total of ten fish aggregating devices in this project. These are the broken ones. Devices near four islands have been now replaced. The fifth will be replaced tomorrow,” Shazail said.
Under the ongoing “Successful Fish Aggregating Device” program, the Fisheries Ministry has established a total of 54 devices in different parts of the country.
