High Court has ended on Monday, the hearings of the two appeal cases filed by the former Minister of Defense Mohamed Nazim who has been arrested by Police.
Nazim had appealed High Court to terminate the arrest warrant issued and the detention period given to him by the Criminal court.
He has been summoned to Court at around 1:45 p.m. and taken from Court at around 5:20 p.m.
According to the new guideline of High Court, hearings regarding detention period will be held as secret hearings, and for that reason media was not allowed into the hearings held on Monday.
Nazim was arrested after the case has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of weapons that was discovered by police on 17 January 2015 and planning anti-government activities, said Nazim’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed.
Lawyers representing Nazim have said that he has nothing to do with the alleged weapons found in his apartment by the police and that police have not yet obtained any evidence to support those weapons belong to Nazim.
An Official of Prosecutor General’s Office said that they have not sent Nazim’s case for trial yet.
