Locked-up woman with disabilities rescued

Ministry of Law and Gender, in cooperation with the police, have rescued a woman with disabilities who had been locked up in a room for two months in Raa Inguraidhoo.

Sources have told Sun Online that the 24-year-old woman was locked up by her own parents. The room she was in had not been opened for two months, and she was given food by sliding it under the door.

The woman had been treated badly by her family for over four years.

Inguraidhoo Council said that the she was rescued yesterday by ministry officials and the police, and it is not yet known if she had been physically abused.

The police spokesperson confirmed that a 24-year-old woman with disabilities has been brought under the protection of Gender Ministry following suspicions of negligence and human rights violations by the family.
