Former Defense Minister Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim has requested police to make it possible to conduct an independent forensic analysis of the weapons discovered from Nazim’s residence.
A letter sent on Saturday to Police Commissioner Hussain Waheed signed by Nazim’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed stated that Nazim has requested to facilitate to conduct a forensic analysis by a third independent party of the weapons that were said by police as had been discovered from Nazim’s residence.
It was also noted in the letter that Nazim will cover the cost of the independent forensic analysis.
Nazim was arrested on Monday of last week at around 1:15 a.m. after the case has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of weapons that was discovered by police on 17 January 2015 and planning anti-government activities, said Nazim’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed.
While Amnesty has started investigating Nazim’s arrest, the hearing of the appeal of Nazim is scheduled at High Court for next Monday.
Meanwhile Nazim’s lawyers’ team has requested the Criminal Court to get a recording or report of the meeting held extend detention period of Nazim.
