Amnesty International has started investigating reports of arbitrary arrest of former defense Minister Mohamed Nazim and his detention condition.
South Asia Specialist of Amnesty International Abbas Faiz on Friday evening said this in a tweet he posted from his official twitter account.
Nazim was arrested on Monday of last week at around 1:15 a.m. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of weapons and planning anti-government activities, said Nazim’s lawyer Maumoon Hameed.
Police had discovered weapons from his apartment on the night of 17 January 2015. However, Nazim was arrested after the case has been sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.
While Amnesty has started investigating Nazim’s arrest, the hearing of the appeal of Nazim is scheduled at High Court for next Monday.
Meanwhile Nazim’s lawyers’ team has requested the Criminal Court to get a recording or report of the meeting held extend detention period of Nazim.
