The government has awarded a project worth MVR 25.2 million to establish a water system and a waste management system in Kaafu Guraidhoo, to State Electric Company (STELCO).
The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Guraidhoo on Tuesday, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim and Managing Director of STELCO Abdul Shukoor.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thorig said that the project is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
He also said that projects worth about MVR 700 million are ongoing, for water systems in seven islands and sewerage systems in nine islands.
Referring to the electricity situation, he said that the government recently donated 80 generators to islands across the country to solve electricity problems.
The ceremony was also attended by Attorney General Mohamed Anil and Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham.
