Children who received donations from Zakat Fund to depart for bone marrow transplant next week

National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has said that children with Thalassemia who got donations from Zakat Fund will leave abroad for bone marrow transplant next week.

CEO of NSPA Mujthaba Jaleel Said on Tuesday to Sun Online that agreements have been signed with the hospitals preferred by the 34 children affected from Thalassemia who have found bone marrow matches.

“Children will leave for treatment next week. Most of the children will go to India or Sri Lanka. Hospitals have been decided based on the preferences of children. Government has considered children’s satisfactions, not the price of the hospitals”, said the CEO.

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has in December 2014 handed over the donations from Zakat Fund for the children affected from Thalassemia who have found bone marrow matches.

The children have to remain in the particular country for three months after bone marrow transplant. All expenses with children's and parents' tickets will be arranged from Zakat Fund.

Mujthaba said that around $ 45,000, including $30,000 – $ 35,000 for the bone marrow transplant operation, will be spent from Zakat Fund on every child.
