Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim has called on private companies to undertake major developmental projects, such as water and sewerage system projects in the atolls.
The minister made this remark at a ceremony in Haa Alifu Thurakunu yesterday, to inaugurate a water and sewerage project in the island.
The project in Thurakunu is undertaken by a private company, Alifulhu Thuththu Foundation. Referring to this, Thorig said that other private companies should see this as an example and be encouraged to undertake similar projects.
Thorig said that Alifulhu Thuththu Foundation’s decision shows support by private companies for the government’s developmental projects, and called on other prominent companies, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, to assist the efforts towards the development of the country.
Alifulhu Thuththu Foundation has also agreed to carry out this work free-of-charge.
