Man arrested on suspicion of theft

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing fishing gear from a boat at T-jetty in Malé.

Police said that the man was arrested at 10:12 a.m. yesterday (Saturday).

The stolen items include hooks, fishing lights, fishing lines, spinners, a radio set, and cash in foreign currency. The items were found hidden in a bed sheet owned by the suspect, said police.

Police also said that the suspect has a crime record for mugging, drugs, and theft; and he has been stopped on the road and questioned 63 times, taken to the police station on 47 times, and arrested 24 times. Investigation has been completed on one case against him, which has been submitted to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office for prosecution, said police.
