Today’s meeting of the Local Government Authority (LGA) Board has come to an abrupt end, after members disagreed over the no-confidence motion against President of LGA Mohamed Nazim.
LGA Spokesperson told Sun Online that the meeting was concluded after a heated debate, when some members voiced their concerns over voting on the motion not having been scheduled for today’s meeting.
The next meeting would be scheduled after seeking advice from the Attorney General over the matter, he told Sun Online.
Male’ City Council representative in the LGA Board Samau Shareef said that the motion was initially put on today’s agenda, but later removed.
The meeting was concluded when some members attempted to take the vote, said Samau.
“Five members, including me, are still willing to proceed with the meeting, but Nazim declared the meeting concluded and left the room,” said Samau.
Voting on the issue was removed from the agenda of a previous meeting as well.
The no-confidence motion against Nazim, who is also the Minister of Defence, was filed to LGA by LGA Board Member Shujau Hussein.
