Man dies while serving sentence for sexual offence

An elderly man serving a ten-year prison sentence for a sexual offence has passed away.

Superintendent of Prisons Mohamed Asif told Sun Online that Mohamed Ibrahim, Nivaidhoshuge, Lhaviyani Naifaru, died at 3:30 a.m. today.

The 85-year-old was sentenced to ten years in prison on 26 March 2013, and was executing his sentence in Malé Prison.

He had breathing difficulties and was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) last night, where the doctors pronounced him dead, the Maldives Correctional Service has informed.
