Two police officers summoned to Nizar murder case hearing

The Juvenile Court has summoned two police officers who were involved in the investigation of the murder of Ahmed Nizar, of Woodland, Thundi, Laamu Gan.

Spokesperson for the Juvenile Court said that the two investigation officers were questioned at the hearing held this morning regarding witness statements, documentary evidence, and other issues related to the case.

The next hearing has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on 15 February 2015.

The suspect, a minor, has been charged under Article 6 (a), with reference to Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act.

Article 2 (a) of the Terrorism Prevention Act states that the act of killing or causing bodily harm or carrying out such actions with the intention of creating fear or terror or with a political motive, shall be construed as acts of terrorism.

Article 6 (a) states that anyone found guilty of an act of terrorism resulting in the loss of a life shall be sentenced to death or life imprisonment or banishment, and the same penalty shall apply to those found guilty of complicity in the crime.

Nizar was found dead around 2:23 a.m. on 15 July 2013 on Sinaaee Magu in Laamu Gan. Wooden planks and iron rods used to attack Nizar were found near his body by the police.
