Four arrested in drug operation in Addu City

Police have searched 35 houses and arrested four people under arrest warrants, as part of a drug operation in Addu City.

The police said that the operation was conducted from 5 to 7 January 2015 by the Special Operations Department, Drug Enforcement Department, and South Police Division.

Eight houses were searched in Hithadhoo, four in Maradhoo, 14 in Feydhoo, one in Maradhoo-Feydhoo, four in Hulhudhoo, and three in Meedhoo as part of the operation, said police.

Police found seven packets and one film canister containing substances believed to be drugs. They also found items used for drug trafficking and brewing alcohol, as well as a bottle containing 500 ml of a substance believed to be brewed alcohol.

Police also seized several items promoting the use of drugs, such as items marked with the cannabis leaf symbol.
