Installation of gravity systems on Ameenee Magu completed

Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has completed the project to install gravity systems on Ameenee Magu, one of several flood-prone areas in Male’, under a project aimed at solving the problem of flooding in the city.

Assistant Marketing Manager of MWSC Ibrahim Akram told Sun Online that the installation of two gravity systems near Ghiyassuddin School had been completed, and that the systems would be connected to a pump station over the next two days.

MWSC has said that the systems would prevent flooding even if the roadside drains are blocked, as the water would be directed via pumps to the sea.

Akram said that similar systems would be installed near the stadium, Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi, Social Centre, and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and that the project would be completed by the end of April 2015.

The government awarded a project worth MVR 4.3 million to MWSC last month, to solve the problem of flooding in Malé.
