Issue of Reeko Moosa creating his own court filed to Police

A complaint has been filed to Police today, of Hulhuhenveiru MP Reeko Moosa Manik having created a ‘people’s court’ last year, and issuing illegal verdicts to people.

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) activist Maaz Ahmed Saleem told reporters that the complaint was filed for Police investigation because Reeko Moosa Manik created his own court and issued frightening verdicts to several citizens.

“Moosa Manik issued illegal verdicts, against the country’s constitution. This was conducted in a manner which undermined the dignity of the judicial system, created fear in people’s hearts, and harmed the country’s independence and sovereignty,” reads the complaint.

Saleem said that he believes that Moosa had conducted a crime, and therefore filed the complaint to the Police.

Lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim said that the complaint was filed because Moosa attempted to damage the dignity of the courts, which makes the act eligible for criminal charges.
