Might take four days to repair cable: Dhiraagu

Dhiraagu has said that it might take about four days to repair the submarine cable.

Dhiraagu Marketing and PR Executive Ibrahim Imjad Jaleel said that their repair vessel has departed from Cochin, India, and is on its way to the cable location. It should reach sometime tomorrow.

Imjad believes the cable was hit by an anchor:

“I think the cable was damaged by something like a ship’s anchor. But we won’t know for sure until our vessel reaches the location.”

The damage was caused to the cable about 26km off Sri Lanka and at a depth of 40m. Internet service was interrupted at around 22:30 last night, but resumed shortly afterwards at a slow speed.
