Candidates of ruling party, PPM has won by-elections of Gaafu Alifu Kondey and Meemu Maduvvari by competing with MDP candidates.
In the by-elections conducted on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., PPM candidate Muhthaar Mohamed won with a difference two votes by competing with MDP candidate Mohamed Siraj in Meemu Maduvvari by-election. Mohamed Siraj has got 198 votes while Muhthaar Mohamed got 201 votes. Out of the total of 311 votes, there were 12 invalid votes.
Gaafu Alifu by-election was also carried out on Saturday. PPM candidate Abdulla Shihab has won this by-election by competing with MDP candidate Zihan Abdulla and an independent candidate. Zihan Abdulla has got 73 votes while the independent candidate got 45 votes and Abdulla Shihab got 116 votes.
Seats from the Kondey and Maduvvari council had become empty, after council member Shan Mohamed and independent council member Mohamed Shaukath resigned their posts.
