Malaysia government has decided to issue dependent visa from January 2015 for the parents of Maldivian students studying up to undergraduate level in Malaysia.
Mohamed Fayaz, Ambassador of Maldives to Malaysia said that Government of Malaysia has decided to issue visa to spouse, children and parents of Maldivian students studying in Malaysia based on the student visa period.
Fayaz said that Malaysian government has made the procedure for student visa easier twice in 2014.
Fayaz noted that Maldivian students had to go to Sri Lanka to get visa from Malaysia at the beginning of this year.
“However, from April 2014, students can go to Malaysia after receiving visa approval letter. And now Malaysia government has decided to give dependent visa for the students studying up to undergraduate level. This is an incentive given to very few countries by Malaysia,” said Fayaz.
According to Fayaz, Malaysia being lenient in visa issue to Maldivian students is due to the strengthening relationship between Maldives and Malaysia and because of the good conduct of Maldivian students.
