The People’s Majilis has voted its approval of the nomination of Justice Abdullah Saeed as the new Chief Justice. The nomination was made today, after the Majilis voted to dismiss former Chief Justice Ahmad Faaiz Hussain from the Supreme Court bench.
Abdullah Saeed’s nomination was approved unanimously by the 55 members present and voting in tonight’s session of the Majilis.
Members of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) walked out of the session before the vote.
The Judicial Service Commission today advised the President on the nomination of Abdullah Saeed as new Chief Justice.
Abdullah Saeed was the Chief Justice during the transition period as well, and has sat in the Supreme Court Bench from the start in 2008.
