Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has made the decision to propose a vote of no-confidence on Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid.
MDP said that this decision was made after a meeting held last night, due to the fact that Shahid makes certain decisions regarding the Parliament without consultation with parties. As an example, they indicated his decision to postpone implementation of Article 25 of the parliament rules of procedure, which relates to response to the presidential address, until the Parliament General Committee completes its assessment of the issue.
MDP said that this issue was discussed at their meeting last night, because Shahid had dealt with a serious issue without discussion with Members of Parliament, taking a Parliament vote or considering best practice, and made the decision based on his own judgment.
The decision to propose a vote of no-confidence on Shahid was made by MDP Parliamentary Group Members.
