The parliament has approved Amjad Mustafa as a member of the Elections Commission (EC).
The three nominations sent to the parliament for approval by the President for the two vacant EC member posts were put forward for voting at the parliament sitting today, in the order of points received by each candidate.
The first candidate, former Secretary General of EC Asim Abdul Sattar, was rejected by the parliament. He received 23 votes in favour and 47 votes against.
The second candidate, Amjad Mustafa, was approved with 63 votes in favour and one against, with five abstentions.
The third candidate, Aishath Hafeez, was also rejected by the parliament, with 47 votes against.
