Committee approves Asim, Amjad as EC members

The Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the appointment of former Secretary General of Elections Commission (EC) Asim Abdul Sattar and Amjad Mustafa as members of EC.

Out of the three nominations for the two posts by the President, Asim and Amjad received highest points in the committee’s evaluation. They received 91 percent and 86 percent respectively.

Candidates must receive 75 percent and above to be approved by the committee, and the third candidate, Aishath Hafeez, did not receive points above this mark.

Asim and Amjad will be appointed as members of EC if they are approved by the parliament.
