The government of China has provided LED lights and Solar PV systems to the Maldives.

The agreement in this regard was signed at a ceremony at Mookai Suites today, by Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim and Deputy Ambassador of China to Maldives Liu Jiyang.

Under the agreement, the Chinese government will provide 125,000 LED bulbs, 75,000 LED tube lights, and ten 80-kW solar PV systems.

Speaking at the ceremony, Thorig said that the lights would be used at government offices as part of the government’s efforts to reduce electricity costs.

He said that the government has initiated a campaign on raising awareness on the importance of reducing electricity costs, and using the money saved by doing so for other purposes.
