Housing Minister: City Council has been informed regarding Male

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that information has been provided to Male’ City Council regarding ongoing efforts by the government with the assistance of an expert, to plant more trees in Male’.

Dr Muizzu said this at a press conference at Velaanaage today.

“…Housing Ministry has informed City Council in writing that efforts are ongoing by the government with the assistance of an expert to plan the city, and plant more trees on the roads. City Council has been requested to participate in these efforts. The final plans for the greenery projects and the roads of Male’ would be known after these things are arranged,” Dr Muizzu said, in response to a question by a reporter regarding the removal of the trees planted by the City Council in Male’.

He said that it is not responsible behaviour on the part of the City Council, after having been informed of these projects, to challenge these efforts.

Dr Muizzu added that he was saddened by the activities by political groups aimed at misleading the public regarding this issue.

He said that the roads of Male’ had been brought under government control lawfully following a decision by the cabinet, and that maintenance of roads was within the mandate of the Housing Ministry.

He also announced that efforts are ongoing to find immediate as well as permanent solutions to the problem of flooding following rain in Male’.
