Lawyer Latheefa Gasim wins JSC election

Latheefa Gasim has won the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) election for lawyers.

Latheefa, who was appointed to JSC by former president Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s government, won the election with 283 votes. Nearest contestant to Latheefa was former Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem. He got 163 votes.

In the election held with five lawyers, Lawyer Mohamed Faisal got 63 votes, Lawyer Anas Abbul Sattar got 19 votes, and Lawyer Rusdhulla Ibrahim got 10 votes.

The Attorney General’s Office has tried to hold this election twice this year before. The election was cancelled the first time due to an order issued by Civil Court. Efforts to hold the election the second time were unsuccessful due to an order issued by Supreme Court.
