Police investigate Meedhoo family, including child, going for jihad

Police have initiated an investigation after receiving a report that a family from Raa Meedhoo, including a child, had gone for jihad.

Information Officer of Meedhoo Council Nahla Ali told Sun Online that Ahsan Ibrahim, 23, Silvermoon, Raa Meedhoo, his wife, mother, and 10-year-old sister have been missing since they travelled to Male’ for Eid holidays.

She said that the council was alerted on the case by Ahsan’s father.

“The case was reported to the council when they went missing after going to Male’ for Eid holidays. Police have said that the group has travelled to Turkey. They said earlier that they were going for medical treatment,” she said.

The police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is ongoing in this regard, but did not disclose the date the case was reported or who was involved.

Foreign media have reported earlier, that two Maldivians, Hassan Shifaz, G. New Moon, Male’, and Ali Adam, Vaguthee Manzil, Shaviyani Funadhoo, have died while fighting in the civil war in Syria.
