Police: No weapons used in arresting Shahum

Police have said that weapons were not used in arresting Ibrahim Shahum Adam, G. Cosy, the dangerous criminal who escaped from Maafushi Prison on Friday.

Police media official said to Sun Online this evening that only police officers were involved in the operation and no weapons of any kind were used.

“Shahum was located in a guest house. No weapons of any kind were used during the arrest,” said media official.

According to one eyewitness, sounds similar to two gunshots were heard and the smell of gunpowder was there during the arrest.

In an interview given to news at 8:00 p.m. on the local channel, Television Maldives (TVM), Home Minister Umar Naseer said that live bullets were not used, and whether any kind of weapons were used or not would be informed later.

Police said that a press conference to provide detailed information on the operation conducted to arrest Shahum would be held very soon.
