Person arrested for providing false information to police

A person from Male’ has been arrested for giving false information.

Police said that the suspect is a 25-year-old Maldivian man.

Police said that he has been arrested at a vehicle checkpoint (VCP) established by Traffic Police near Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi, Boduthakurufaanu Magu, after he gave false information at around 5:30 p.m. today.

Police said that he was arrested for giving false information regarding his personal details and misleading police officers when stopped and questioned. And when he was checked, police found out that his driving license has been withheld since 19 August 2014 for breaching land transportation law by talking on mobile phone while riding motorcycle.

Police said that he had been stopped and questioned 17 times by traffic police so far and had been taken under custody once. Apart from this, police said that seven cases for violating land transport law were evident from his records.

Criminal Investigation Department of the police has started the investigation of false information being provided to police.
