Home Ministry announces MVR 75,000 reward for information on Shahum, Luthfee

Home Ministry has decided to give a reward of MVR 75,000 to anyone who provides information that can lead to the arrest of escaped prisoners Ibrahim Shahum of G. Cozy, Male’, and Abdulla Luthfee of H. Haajaraage, Male’.

This was announced by Home Minister Umar Naseer in a press conference held today.

Shahum escaped from Maafushi prison on Friday night, while Luthfee has been on the run since he went abroad for a medical treatment.

“Regarding Ibrahim Shahum, G. Cozy, Male’, and Abdulla Luthfee, H. Haajaraage, Male’, today, the Home Ministry would like to announce that we will offer a reward of MVR 75,000 to anyone who provides information to police on any of these two criminals with sufficient evidence to arrest them,” said Home Minister.

Minister Umar said that he had requested Defence Ministry for assistance from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), under Article 71 (a) of Police Act today.

Minister Umar said that MNDF has been given full authority to shoot Shahum while trying to locate him, if necessary.

“I request anyone who knows the whereabouts of Shahum to surrender him to police as soon as possible. We are not going to be responsible for any incident that can cause harm to anyone’s life that may result during arresting him,” said Minister Umar.

Home Minister said that Fariyash Ahmed of Javaahiruvaadhee, Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo, who escaped from Maafushi prison with Shahum, was wearing a wig when was arrested. So he emphasized that Shahum might also have altered his appearance by now.
