It has been decided to cancel tomorrow’s (Monday's) meeting of the parliament for not having any work listed in agenda.

Meeting of the parliament has been cancelled on last Wednesday as well for the same reason. After the meeting held on Tuesday last week, Deputy Speaker of the parliament, Reeko Moosa Manik who chaired the meeting that day, said that the following day’s meeting had been cancelled for not having any work and a date for the next meeting would be informed later.

Secretary General of Parliament said to Sun Online on Sunday that Monday’s meeting of the parliament has been cancelled because there was no work listed in the agenda.

Deputy Speaker of the parliament Moosa requested the Chairpersons of the committees to give special significance to complete the tasks of the committees during the last parliament meeting.

According the rule of the parliament, three parliament meetings, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, must be held at every week.

Each parliament member receives a sum of MVR 82,500 as salary and allowances. Basic salary of a parliament member is MVR 42,500 while each member receives a living allowance of MVR 20,000 and committee allowance of MVR 20,000.

President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has said in February 2014 that there was a mismatch between the salary taken by parliament members and the service they provide.
