Environment Minister: Changing simple household habits can lower electricity bills

Thoriq Ibrahim, Environment Minister has said that electricity bills could be lowered by changing simple household habits.

Speaking in an event held to provide information to media on World Energy Day 2014 celebrations and to inaugurate the campaign for energy efficiency awareness, Minister Thoriq said that main aim of the campaign inaugurated today was to promote awareness on saving energy.

“… Most of us don’t have the habit of switching off the ACs, lights and computers when we leave the room. We can save a vast amount from monthly electricity bills if we improve these little habits,” said minister Thoriq.

Speaking in the event, Minister of State for Environment, Abdul Matheen Mohamed said that in order to celebrate the World Energy Day 2014, there would be programs, which would last for a week and a year. While speaking about the campaign, he said that energy efficiency awareness would be held for one year under the slogan "It’s cool at 25".

“It’s cool at 25” campaign would be organised by Environment Ministry with cooperation of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), FENAKA Corporation and National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

World Energy Day 2014 activities will be held in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo. World Energy Day is celebrated on 22 October.
