Minister Umar: This is an opportunity to improve the condition of prison

Home Minister Umar Naseer said that it is an opportunity to improve the condition of prison while two prisoners have been escaped from Maafushi Jail on Friday.

In a Twitter message posted On Friday, Minister Umar said that every prison escape was an opportunity for prison officers to identify loopholes and improve the system while hunting them down.

Police with Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) have started to search nearby sea area on Friday for criminals; Ibrahim Shahum Adam, 23 of Galolhu Cozy and Fariyash Ahmed, 26 of Javaahiru vaadhee, Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo who had escaped from Maafushi Jail after sawing their way out of prison ventilation system.

Police said that they came to know about disappearance of two criminals on checking their respective cell after police intelligence received information regarding the case.

Ibrahim Shahum was serving life imprisonment in jail and convicted of terrorism by Criminal Court.
