Two speedboats moored at the T-jetty harbour in Male’ have sunk following heavy rain on Thursday night.
The boats belong to Sirius Enterprises Private Limited and Inner Maldives Holidays Private Limited.
Spokesperson for Sirius told Sun Online that the boat sank after two of its automatic drainage pumps broke down, and that the accident would cause a loss of about MVR 600,000 for the company.
He said that while boat has been pulled to the surface of the water, the water is likely to have damaged the two 115 horsepower engines, which are nearly brand new.
Spokesperson for Inner Maldives said that their speedboat with a capacity of 22 people sank last night, and the cost of overhauling the engine is estimated to be between MVR 80,000 and MVR 100,000.
