Placement Centre of Malaysia’s Asia e University (AeU) in the Maldives, Sun Foundation, has said that opportunities to complete AeU courses for students residing in Maldives will be facilitated at a broader scale next year.
General Manager of Sun Foundation Asharaf Abdul Raheem, who recently attended the 4th Graduation Ceremony of AeU in Malaysia, told Sun Online that the paperwork necessary to expand the provision of AeU courses in Maldives, is almost complete.
“It is not easy to leave your family and job, to go abroad for several years to study. There are many Maldivians who have not obtained higher education for this reason. The most important thing we want to do in collaboration with AeU is, to facilitate opportunities for Maldivians to obtain higher education, at a large scale,” said Ashraf.
He added that this would also save costs for Maldivians wishing to gain higher education.
A total of 1,200 students graduated at AeU’s Graduation Ceremony held last month. This includes 12 PhD students, 177 Master’s Degree students, 126 Bachelor’s Degree students, 21 Graduate Diploma students, 820 Executive Master’s students, and 44 Professional Degree students. About 300 of them were non-Malaysians. Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of Land and Public Transport Commission of Malaysia; and Minister of Education of Namibia were among the PhD graduates.
Over 5,000 students have graduated from AeU since it was established in 2007. AeU has gained popularity in Asia for distance learning programs.
Several Maldivian students are already enrolled in AeU courses via the Placement Centre in the Maldives, Sun Foundation.
Sun Foundation was founded in 2009 by Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, chairman of Sun Siyam Holdings and member of parliament for Meedhoo constituency.
