I did not contest for Chairperson; the issue will be looked into: Colonel

Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) has said that his name was submitted as a candidate for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Chairperson without his knowledge, and that he is currently in dialogue with his legal team to file this case to the Police.

He told Sun Online last night that he informed MDP as soon as he received information that his name had been submitted, and that this was done under a deliberate plan to create divisions within MDP.

He suspects that a group outside of MDP is responsible for this.

At a press conference held at MDP Office today, MDP’s Mohamed Mahir Eesa said that signatures of 979 people supporting Moosa were received with Moosa’s name, while only about 97 signatures were received with Colonel’s name. MDP basic regulation states that signatures of at least 300 supporters must be submitted with each member who wishes to contest for Chairman.

Colonel said that this was an attempt to ruin his reputation, and that he will investigate how it happened.
