President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has contacted Maldivian hajj pilgrims by phone to ask about their condition, and extend greetings.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed told Sun Online that the President’s call came while the 500 pilgrims of Hajj Corporation were attending a sermon, and that the President addressed the pilgrims via the microphone.
The President asked to extend his greetings to Maldivian pilgrims of other groups as well, said Dr Shaheem.
Dr Shaheem said that President Yameen made several attempts to visit the centres of the Maldivian pilgrims, but was denied by the security forces and Saudi Royal Protocol.
“All the pilgrims, in Minaa, were very happy to hear from the president. They also extended their greetings to the president and his family,” said Dr Shaheem.
He added that all pilgrims are doing well.
“All pilgrims are in good condition. The woman who was admitted to the hospital, also managed to reach Arafat,” said Dr Shaheem.
