Court releases one suspect in Rilwan case

The Criminal Court has released one out of the four suspects arrested over the disappearance of Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.

The police spokesperson said that out of the three remaining suspects, one has been placed in house arrest for five days, while detention periods have been extended for the other two.

Detention periods were extended by seven days for one suspect, and by ten days for the other, said the spokesperson.

Police have searched several locations in Male’, Hulhumale’ Vilimale’, and other islands, as part of their search operation for Rilwan.

Police have also said that video footage of 293 hours, collected from 30 cameras in various locations, are under investigation; and some forensic evidence have been sent abroad for further study.
