Education Minister: Teachers, parents will be provided handbooks next year

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham has said that next year, handbooks will be provided to teachers, parents, and administrative staff.

In her address on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Dr Aishath Shiham said that in addition to this, development plans will also be compiled and implemented for all schools at the start of the next academic year.

“By the end of the year, relevant officials of the ministry would have met with all principals across the country, to explain the ministry’s policies and its expectations from the schools in the implementation of these policies. Already, 90 percent of this work has been completed. God willing, the result of these efforts would be the compilation and implementation at the start of the 2015 academic year, of handbooks for teachers, parents, and administrative staff; and development plans for all schools,” said Dr Aishath Shiham.

She added that by the start of the 2105 academic year, a ‘subject improvement plan’ will also be introduced in all schools.

"Education policies are implemented in the classroom, and this is facilitated by teachers. Therefore, our goal is to ensure that teachers understand these policies and the level and standard at which they should be implemented, and to provide the resources necessary for teachers to carry out their work according to these standards.”

She highlighted the importance of developing teachers’ skills, and said that efforts are ongoing to provide additional training programs for teachers at the end of the year.

Dr Aishath Shiham assured that no student will be left behind on the ‘bridge of education’, and said that the government’s aim is to ensure that every child reaches a bright, prosperous destination.
