Police: Arrests follow significant progress in investigation

The Maldives Police Service has said that despite the rumours, the three arrests made in relation to the disappearance of Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan was the result of significant progress in the investigation.

The police spokesperson told Sun Online that several people have shared information in relation to this case, but stressed that more information is needed to proceed with the investigation.

He urged anyone who has any information to step forward and contact the police as soon as possible.

Three suspects were arrested yesterday and the Criminal Court has remanded one of them in custody for seven days, and the other two for five days.

As part of the search operation for Rilwan, Police have searched locations in Male’, Hulhumale’, and several other islands.

Police have also said that video footage of 293 hours, collected from 30 cameras in various locations, are under investigation; and some forensic evidence have been sent abroad for further study.
