Local journalists have held an emergency meeting with Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, following the attacks on Minivan News building and death threats to journalists.
The meeting was held at Iskandar Building on Friday night.
During the meeting, journalists expressed concern over the dangers faced by them. They informed the Home Minister of the increased number of threats received via SMS and phone calls, and said that this has affected their work and left them in a state of fear.
They also highlighted that journalists who refuse to comply with the threats were receiving physical harm, and requested the minister to take action to stop these activities.
Umar Naseer assured that the government will always protect, and never hesitate to provide security to journalists.
The meeting, held shortly after a group destroyed the CCTV camera at Minivan News building and left a machete on the door of an apartment in the building, was attended by senior officials of major media groups and a large number of journalists.
