Home Minister: Threats to media under investigation as a serious issue

Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has said that the case of threats being issued to local journalists, is under investigation by the police as a very serious matter.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs today, the minister noted that journalists received threats after they reported the incident wherein the office of Minivan News was attacked in an attempt to intimidate journalists yesterday.

There are indications that these attacks are related to gang activities, and the government will take quick action against the perpetrators, read the statement.

The Home Minister further assured that the government will continue with the efforts to find a permanent solution to the problem of increased criminal activity in the society.

This statement comes in relation to several journalists receiving threats, after they reported the attacks on Minivan News yesterday.

Journalists met with the Home Minister last night to discuss this issue, during which the minister assured that due protection and security will be provided to local media and journalists.
