Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed has said there are 37 sentences that have not been executed, due to lack of cooperation and assistance from relevant authorities with the efforts of the Criminal Court.
The Chief Judge made this remark while speaking at a function held on Saturday evening, to mark the anniversary of the Criminal Court.
Judge Abdulla also talked about issues that obstruct charges being proved in court, such as incomplete investigations, and lack of attention to the Constitution and the laws by investigative authorities.
He said that it has also been noted that the court often lacks a suitable environment to allow state prosecutors and witnesses to carry out their duties.
Judge Abdulla said that since the court has introduced a fast system for clearing criminal records since it took over this responsibility some time ago, and noted that it now takes 15 seconds to clear a person’s criminal records – something which used to take two months.
He said that by the end of 2013, criminal records had been deleted for 24,255 people.
