The International Teachers’ Conference 2014, which commenced on 8 September at Villa College, has been concluded today.

The conference, organised by the National Institute of Education (NIE) and Villa College, was attended by teachers from Maldives and several other countries, as well as officials representing the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and local NGOs.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the National Art Gallery this evening to mark the conclusion of the conference, Minister of State for Education Adam Shareef Umar thanked all parties involved in organising the conference, and noted the support received in this regard from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Speaking at the ceremony, former Minister of Education Dr Mahmood Shaugy said that the conference has been very useful for all participants.

The Ministry of Education has said that the focus of next year’s Teachers’ Conference, scheduled for June, will be the new curriculum.

The conference, held from 8 to 10 September, was the second such conference held in the Maldives.
