Aasandha scheme is against Health Insurance Act: Health Ministry

Ministry of Health has said that the Aasandha scheme is against the national health insurance act.

Minister of State for Health Tharig Ali Luthfee said in the letter sent to Financial Committee that Aasandha scheme does not fit the description of social health insurance in article 4 (a) of national health insurance act.

Chairperson of Financial Committee Ahmed Nazim said, after presenting the letter to the Committee, that the letter should be included in the Committee’s report on Aasandha which has already been completed.

However this was rejected by Committee members, following which the issue was sent to the Parliament floor for their decision.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group Member Ahmed Hamza said that Tharig’s letter should be dealt with as a separate issue. He also noted that the letter did not include any propositions from Attorney General Azima Shakoor or Health Minister Dr Ahmed Jamsheed.

Hamza’s statement was supported by Committee members, and the decision was made the deal with the letter as a separate issue.
