Drug smuggler sentenced to life imprisonment

Ibrahim Shifah, 26, of Jamburoalumaage, Vaavu Felidhoo, has been given life imprisonment for smuggling drugs into the Maldives.

He was convicted of bringing drugs into the country on 7 October 2011 on a Maldivian flight that landed at 6:50 p.m.

The Criminal Court verdict states that according to witness testimonies, Shifah was searched following suspicious behaviour as he arrived in the country, whereby officers found 0.2086 grams of cannabis in his wallet, and 0.2584 grams of cannabis in his backpack.
